ALYSSA'S BIG ADVENTURE

As students walked into the room this morning, I saw one of my young girls (M.M) place a packet of papers on another girl's (L.E.) desk. Later, when L.E. came in, I saw her pick up the packet, flip it over, look over to the other girl and then directly to me. Not wanting to get involved, I ignored the look and moved on with the morning routine.

As writing time began, L.E. made eye contact with me again and held the pack up for me to see. On the first page was written: ALYSSA'S BIG ADVENTURE. [My first thought: Drats! The kids know my real name!] The following lines are exact lines from the book that M.M. and L. E. wrote:

One day Alyssa woke up and discovered that here puppies Maddy, Abby, and Victoria were missing. She looked everywhere! They were nowhere to be found.

She called the police who called the pound who called her back with an answer, no. She had a tight relationship with the puppies, and she didn't want to let them go, so she set off.

First China. Nothing. Asia, nope. Africa? Still nothing. She searched all over the globe, nowhere could she find them. She went home in sadness, her puppies were missing, no doubt about it.

Her last hope when she got home at the end of the day just like santa is to hope they would be there, and guess what? When she got home BOOM! Went the door!! In amazement all the puppies burst through the door! Alyssa just sat ,and hugged Maddy, Abby, and Victoria.

THE END

So, that's the first story a student/students has/have written about me. L.E. wrote the story and M.M. typed it and added illustrations (hilarious clip art of dogs, a clearly worried black blob, a huge telephone yelling at the person holding the phone, the Great Wall of China, and overly excited dogs running). While I knew that this was something they had been working on for awhile about a month ago, I had no idea it was still in the works.

Notes: Please, please tell me that you laughed at the line, "She had a tight relationship with the puppies." Also, please note that China and Asia are different places. I also had no idea what I could travel all across the globe in one day--what the heck am I still doing here? I could be in China now and still be able to make it back in time to be in Laurens by lunch time tomorrow. And is anyone else laughing at the Santa comment in the 4th paragraph?

L.E. and M.M., thank you for making the start of today the best it could have been. I love your story.
